MOV to MP3 Converter

Pull the audio out of a QuickTime video and save it as a small MP3. The video stream is discarded without being decoded, so the conversion is fast.

Accepted: .mov .mp4 .m4v · up to 2 GB

Before you start

  • · The first conversion downloads the FFmpeg engine (about 32 MB). It is cached afterwards.
  • · Keep files under 2 GB, and under a few hundred MB if you are on a phone or re-encoding video.
  • · Keep this tab in the foreground — browsers throttle background tabs and the conversion will pause.

How to convert MOV to MP3 in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Drop in your MOV file

Add a .mov or .qt file recorded on an iPhone, a DSLR, QuickTime Player or a Mac screen recording.

  2. 2

    Choose the MP3 bitrate

192 kbps suits interviews, lectures and voice notes. Use 320 kbps for music performances where you want the most detail kept.

  3. 3

    Extract the audio

Press Convert. FFmpeg reads the audio track, ignores the video track entirely, and produces a ready-to-download MP3.

About MOV and MP3

What makes MOV different from MP4

MOV is Apple’s QuickTime container and MP4 is essentially its ISO-standardised descendant. Both can wrap H.264 or HEVC video plus AAC audio, which is why the two formats look interchangeable. The practical difference is container metadata: MOV files may carry ProRes, timecode tracks, alpha channels or multiple audio tracks that MP4 players do not expect.

You are extracting, not transcoding

The video stream is dropped before decoding ever happens, so the pixels in your MOV are never processed. Only the audio is decoded and re-encoded to MP3, which is why a large video file converts in seconds rather than minutes and why the output is a few megabytes instead of a few hundred.

Common reasons to pull audio out of a MOV

Turning a recorded lecture, interview, meeting or gig into something you can listen to on a phone. Sending a voice memo to someone whose phone will not open QuickTime files. Trimming the audio out of a screen recording so you can keep just the narration. Or simply shrinking a 2 GB video into a 15 MB audio file for archiving.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert MOV to MP3 for free?
Add the MOV file at the top of this page, pick a bitrate and press Convert. The MP3 downloads when the conversion finishes. It is free and needs no account.
Will the video quality be affected?
There is no video output at all. This tool extracts the audio track, so the video stream is discarded rather than converted.
Can I convert a MOV with no audio track?
No — if the MOV contains video only, there is nothing to extract and the converter will report an error. Check the file in a player that shows track information first.
Does it work with iPhone screen recordings?
Yes. Screen recordings and camera clips saved as .mov convert normally, including those with HEVC video, because only the audio track is read.
How long does the conversion take?
Audio extraction is the fastest operation on the site. A five-minute MOV typically finishes in a few seconds on a desktop, plus the one-time engine download on your first visit.
Is the file uploaded anywhere?
No. The whole conversion runs inside your browser tab, so the video stays on your device from start to finish.
